Reform of Russian Science as a Reason for Scientometrics Research Growth
نویسنده
چکیده
Introduction After the USSR had fallen down in 1990, there was a steady stagnation of Russian science for fifteen years. Iron curtain that separated soviet researchers from the international science disappeared, but research funds sharply decreased due to the economic problems. As a result, the number of publications registered in Web of Science, stayed between 30 000 and 34 000 per year. Thus, Russian science moved from the group of leading countries to the second dozen. Restoration of Russian Science started in 2006 after government had introduced a new model of the research process. Essential part of the model was wide application of the formal scientific results assessment. This approach triggered a rapid growth of scientometrics publications written by mathematicians, physicists, philosophers and others. The main goal of this paper is to make a review of new Russian scientometrics landscape, which could help to determine its strengths and weaknesses and launch new collaborations.

While ISSI was founded in 1993, scientometrics and bibliometrics are now at least half a century old. Indeed, the field can be traced to early quantitative studies in the early 20 Century. In the thirties, it evolved to the “science of science.” The publication of J. D. Bernal’s Social Function of Science in 1939 was a key transition point but the field lay dormant until after World War II, whe...

The objective of this study was to compare biological parameters such as length, weight, age, caviar production indices, caviar/weight, growth, condition factor and sex ratios of Persian sturgeon (Acipenser persicus Borodin, 1897) and Russian sturgeon (A. gueldenstaedti Brandt & Ratzeburg, 1833) in the Caspian Sea during 1990-2014. The results showed that a variety of differences between this t...

Beef production is an important development area in animal breeding with meat quality being determined by both paratypic and genetic factors. In this regard evaluating genetic material for the presence of desirable allele combinations of genes associated with growth and development indicators, as well as meat qualities of animals have a certain scientific and practical significance. The aim of ...

The BIR workshop series foster the revitalisation of dormant links between two fields in information science: information retrieval and bibliometrics/scientometrics. Hopefully, tightening up these links will cross-fertilise both fields. I believe compelling research questions lie at the crossroads of scientometrics and other fields: not only information retrieval but also, for instance, psychol...
